Изначально писал для официального форума Miranda IM, однако подумав, решил кинуть ещё и сюда дабы не потерялось.
Или к вопросу об смерти Миранды.I'm able to talk only as advanced user of Miranda **.
Miranda IM is obviously dead. It have been dead for two or three years. It started to die near 0.8-0.9 development cycle, when UUIDs revolution had failed. After 0.8 release stagnation of the development became apparent. The core had almost no changes so external developers started to resign from the project. The program can be completed in any manner, but if there is no continuous changes, users of the program are become disappointed and they start to seek other software. Especially 0.9-0.10 were disappointing, with infinite number of builds without any real changes.
So, when NG was born, the environment and ecosystem were almost destroyed. There were no new users and no developers. It is easy to prove by looking at stats of forums, jabber channels and so on.
Fortunately, NG is alive and people are starting to use it. There are many new changes, there are plans and ideas and fortunately there are even new developers to implement that ideas. As example, I can mention Skype and webkit-based message-log (IEView-like plugin). So we can wait and explore processes taking place.
PS: Of course, there were some other reasons for this situation, as example general suppression of instant messaging systems, and expanding of social networks. People has been migrating from every IM, not only from Miranda. Also there are many web- and mobile-based messaging systems, there are Skype and Gtalk occupying large segment of the market.
